Chair back, oil in
Pre-shave oil worked against the grain so the blade has something to ride on. Denver air pulls moisture out of skin faster than the coasts do — skip this step and you feel it two days later.
First hot towel
Three towels across the service. Coarse beard hair needs the heat more than your face does; each towel sits until it stops steaming.
Hot lather, badger brush
Lather off the machine, laid in circles with a brush. Nothing out of a can touches your face in this shop.
Two passes, then we stop
Pass one with the grain, re-lather, pass two across it. We do not chase a third pass — that is how a shave at 5,280 feet turns into four days of razor burn.
Cold towel, alum, balm
Cold towel to close everything down, alum block along the cheek line, alcohol-free balm. You walk out and go straight to the wedding, the headshot, or the flight.
Straight razor work is performed only by barbers licensed under C.R.S. Title 12, Article 105. Blades are single-use and dropped in the sharps container in front of you. Combs and shears sit in Barbicide between every client — the same standard a DORA inspector checks for.

Your scalp flakes from October to April
Winter humidity in the metro sits between 12 and 30 percent, and a hot ten-minute shower finishes the job. We clarify on the chair and send you home with an alcohol-free tonic, not a menthol shampoo that makes it worse.
Winter water leaves a film
Denver Water runs soft to moderately hard — roughly 40 to 120 mg/L depending on which collection system feeds you, and harder in winter than during spring runoff. That mineral film is why your rinse feels cloudy. A chelating wash once a week clears it.
A ski helmet flattens a high fade by 10 a.m.
If you are on I-70 most Saturdays, ask for a mid taper with more weight left on the crown. It holds under a helmet and still looks intentional in the lodge.
Skin fades and shaved heads burn up here
UV is noticeably harsher at altitude and a fresh bald fade has no defense. Every head shave leaves with SPF balm worked in, on the house.

Moved here from Chicago in March and burned through four shops before this one. Marco is the first barber in Denver who blended past the crown instead of stopping at it. Three weeks later it still grew out clean.
Wedding was Saturday at 10 with a photographer booked. Called Friday at 3, they had me in the chair at 4:45 and squared the beard for free because it fit inside the cut time.

Last haircut goes in 30 minutes before close, last straight razor shave 45 minutes before. Free street parking on the side streets; the lot behind the building opens to us after 5.
House rules
Six things, posted by the register since 2011.
- Walk in any time we are open and you get the real wait, not a number designed to keep you in the room.
- More than 12 minutes late and we do what fits the clock — usually the cut, not the beard.
- We cut men’s and kids’ hair. That is the entire menu, and it is why we are quick at it.
- No speakerphone in the chair. Take the call outside; the chair will still be warm.
- Cash tips go in the jar by the mirror. Card tips reach the same barber the same week.
- If our cut is not right, come back within 7 days and the barber who did it fixes it, free.
